Afterword is built to need as little information about you as possible. There are no accounts, and we never ask for your name, e-mail, date of birth or gender.

What stays on your device

Your browser's local storage keeps your recent searches, books you marked as read, liked or disliked, and books you've already been shown. This stays on this device only. Delete it at any time with “Forget my reading history” or by clearing your browser's site data.

What is sent when you ask the bookseller

Your question and the titles of books you've read, liked, disliked or already seen are sent to our server so the bookseller can recommend books and avoid repeats. Legal basis: providing the service you request.

By default your question is interpreted on our own server, without any AI. Only when the AI bookseller is switched on is the text sent to an AI provider (Anthropic, PBC, in the United States) to generate suggestions. Please don't include personal information in your question — it isn't needed.

To find and check books we query Open Library with titles, authors and topics (for example a book you mention, or “science fiction”), never your full question, and retrieve covers from it.

We don't store your conversations and never publish them. Our reading lists are written by us.

Technical data

Our hosting provider (Vercel) processes technical data such as IP addresses to deliver pages and protect the service. We use IP addresses briefly, in memory, to limit how many requests can be made in a short time. Book covers load directly from Open Library's servers.

Some of these providers are based outside the European Economic Area; transfers rely on the safeguards they offer, such as the Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.

Analytics

If analytics are switched on, we use Vercel Web Analytics, which works without cookies and reports aggregated statistics. We never send the text of your questions to analytics.

Shared links and posters

Shared links contain only public book identifiers — not your question, not the reasons given to you, nothing about you. Posters are made in your browser and are not uploaded.

Your rights

You can ask for access, rectification, erasure, restriction or objection, and complain to your data-protection authority (in Spain, the AEPD, www.aepd.es). Because we keep no accounts or conversations, there is usually nothing on our side to delete. Contact: [to be completed by the site owner].
